Unlocking Your Child’s Growth With Lexile & Quantile Frameworks
Your child may receive these measures as part of classroom assessments that help guide instruction and monitor progress as well as end-of-year testing. Here is more information on how you can use Lexile and Quantile measures to help your child grow their reading and math abilities and accelerate their path to success in school, college, and careers.
What are Lexile and Quantile Measures?
Lexile and Quantile measures are essential tools designed to help parents and teachers support a child's growth in reading and mathematics.
The Lexile Framework for Reading measures both a student's reading ability and the complexity of texts on the same scale. This unique approach allows teachers and parents to connect children with reading materials that match their current level while also challenging them to build their literacy skills.
By using Lexile measures, you can find books with the right level of challenge and vocabulary, ensuring your child's reading development is effectively supported.

How Does my Child Get Lexile and Quantile Measures?
A Lexile measure, represented as a number followed by an “L,” ranges from below 0L to above 2000L, capturing the complexity of texts your child can read and understand.
This measure, a number followed by the letter “Q,” ranges from below 0Q to above 1400Q and covers the skills and concepts taught from kindergarten through high school. For example, to be prepared for college and most careers, your child’s Quantile measure should be around 1330Q.
Is My Child Reading at Grade Level?
Understanding if your child is reading at grade level can help you support their learning. Lexile measures provide insights into your child's individual reading ability, rather than aligning directly with grade levels. Each state's benchmarks can differ, but we've created nationwide Lexile Grade Level Charts to give you a clear picture of how your child’s reading compares to their peers across the country.
For math skills, "grade level" varies by state and curriculum. Our Quantile Grade Level Charts offer a way to see how your child's math skills stack up against their peers nationwide. These charts are based on a broad dataset we've gathered to help you understand where your child stands and how you can support their growth.
